Exportation and destruction of obsolete pesticides from the Slonim Landfill

Transportation and destruction of obsolete pesticides from the Slonim Obsolete Pesticide Landfill are carried out under the International Technical Assistance Project on Persistent Organic Pollutant Management (Component C of the Belarus Integrated Solid Waste Management Project).

The international open bid for transportation and destruction of obsolete pesticides from the Slonim Landfill was won by SAVA GmbH, a German company.

Obsolete pesticides are extracted from the landfill and packaged by the Republican Special Taskforce of the Ministry of Emergencies; packaged pesticides are exported by SAVA GmbH. The pesticides are destroyed at a special facility of SAVA GmbH in Brunsbüttel, Germany.

As of January 1, 2013, 2,006 tons of obsolete pesticides have been extracted from the Slonim Landfill, of which 950 tons have been exported to Germany and destroyed there in an environmentally sound manner.

The remaining 1,063 tons of obsolete pesticides will be exported to Germany and destroyed there by September 1, 2013.
