General Information

POPs impact on the environment

Analysis of the available data of local monitoring on the territory of the obsolete pesticides landfills

The data of local monitoring held on the territory of the obsolete pesticides landfills show that migration of pesticides from them either absent or negligible as al identified concentrations of pesticides in environmental media do not exceed the maximum permissible concentrations for these substances. The table shows the summarized data for all landfills of the republic illustrating the degree if landfills impact on the environment.

Table Summarized monitoring data for the obsolete pesticides landfills

Verkhnedvinsk landfill
454,5
More than 20 tons
Migration in the environment is identified and grounded by peculiarities of geological and hydro-geological conditions of the landfill
The landfill was examined in 2003-2004; as a result, the affected zone for watercourses and ground waters was specified.

Local monitoring of ground waters has been conducted since 2005

Petrikov landfill
1423,3
More than 150 tons
It is rather difficult to assess the rate and direction of pesticides migration because of the absence of the systematized data on the landfill
Random sampling from the environmental compartments has been undertaken.

Slonim landfill
882
More than 400 tons
There is pesticides migration to the environment. The data on the rate and direction of migration are rather contradictory.
The landfill was examined in 1998 and 2004. The obtained data are contradictory to some extent.

Local monitoring of ground waters have been conducted since 2005

Dribin landfill

More than 90 tons
There is pesticides migration to the environment, which is conditioned by the peculiarities of geological and hydro geological conditions of landfill.
The ground waters have been controlled by Mogilev RCHE and HP since 1989.

The landfill was examined in 2003-2004, the affected zone was specified. Local monitoring of ground waters have been conducted since 2005
